“Our bodies and minds respond to stress and trauma in ways that may have been protective at the time but can later hold us back. Modern therapy helps us become aware of these responses, allowing us to choose how we react instead of being driven by them. It also supports healing old wounds, freeing us to live more fully and authentically.”
For Caterina (she/her), therapy is not just about alleviating symptoms; it is a process that can help people move beyond what has been holding them back and live more fully.
Caterina’s priority is to create a safe space where you can slow down, share your challenges, and collaborate with someone who is fully invested in your well-being. She aims to help you explore new ways of understanding yourself and connecting with the people who matter to you.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in neuroscience, attachment theory, and a trauma-informed perspective. She draws from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and other approaches within a psychodynamic framework, depending on what is most useful for the person or couple in front of her.
With a focus on mindfulness and somatic practices, Caterina believes that effective therapy involves paying attention to what is happening in the body as well as what we understand intellectually.
A mid-career changer, Caterina brings a broad range of experience to her work. Before becoming a therapist, she spent ten years as part-time faculty at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine and worked with organizations addressing social determinants of health in the U.S., South Africa, and the UK. This background, along with her personal experiences, informs her commitment to therapy that is inclusive and affirming across identities, neurotypes, cultures, and life experiences. She has particular experience working with intercultural and interracial couples, LGBTQIA+ clients, and neurodivergent individuals and couples. Caterina is also certified by the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity (AANE) as a Couples Therapist for Neurodivergent Couples.
Caterina holds a Master of Social Work degree from Boston College, with a certificate in trauma. She trained at Cambridge Health Alliance’s Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department, MIT’s sexual and domestic violence advocacy program, and completed a fellowship at Boston Behavioral Medicine. She also holds degrees from Cambridge University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK.
At 1A Wellness, Caterina also serves as a clinical supervisor and practice consultant, supporting colleagues, promoting best practices, and advancing our commitment to inclusive care.
“One of the most powerful things we can do for another person is be curious about who they truly are. I feel grateful every day that I get to connect with people in this way.”
