“Pain often carries meaning we haven’t understood yet. Therapy can be a place where even the hardest experiences are brought into the relationship, understood, and worked through instead of being carried alone.”
You can be capable in many parts of your life and still find yourself undone by the same argument, the same self-criticism, the same loss, or the same feelings that keep overwhelming you. What we keep returning to is rarely random. It often has roots in earlier experiences that are still shaping us in ways we may not be fully aware of.
Adeline Dettor, LICSW (she/her), helps clients bring those connections into view. She works with professionals, young adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationships that keep circling back to the same hurt. Her approach creates space for curiosity, self-compassion, and for seemingly small and inconsequential observations to grow into life-altering insights.
Grief is also central to Adeline’s practice. No One Should Grieve Alone, the grief group she created for young adults in Cambridge, has become one of our most established and sought-after offerings. The group offers a rare place to process loss with others who have lived through similar experiences, where listening and shared connection take priority over advice, and grief can be shared rather than carried alone.
The depth of Adeline’s work is supported by rigorous training and clinical experience. She earned a Master of Social Work with a Mental Health Concentration and Trauma Certification from Boston College and has advanced psychodynamic training through the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. She serves as a clinical supervisor and consultant at 1A Wellness and is also on the faculty at the Psychodynamic Couples and Family Institute of New England, where she contributes to the training of other clinicians.
“We have a limited amount of time on this earth. The therapy space is a rich and intense microcosm of life. One of the things I love most about being a therapist is seeing how a person’s engagement in therapy inevitably changes how they engage with the rest of their lives. When people truly lean into the process, that effort doesn’t stay in the room—it reshapes how they live for the better.”
