Individual Therapy

You’re good at figuring things out.
This one’s different.

Depth-oriented individual therapy for adults — anxiety, depression, and the relationship patterns that keep reasserting themselves no matter how much you understand them.

A quiet moment alone
Where to start

One-on-one psychotherapy

You’ve probably already spent a lot of time trying to understand what’s going on. Maybe you’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, talked it through with people you trust. You may have thought carefully about why things feel so hard. And yet here you are, in it again.

That’s not a failure of intelligence or effort. It’s a signal that something deeper is running the show — something thinking alone can’t reach. That’s what therapy at this level is actually for.

The people we work with

Different lives, recognizable patterns.

  • The high-achieving professional who has built an impressive life and privately wonders why the personal side of it feels so hard. Successful at work; less comfortable in relationships, in emotional life, in the quiet moments when there’s nothing to solve. The question that eventually surfaces: why can I perform so well out there and feel so lost in here?
  • The person in a pattern they can’t break. Different relationships, same ending. Different job, same anxiety. A way of responding to conflict and intimacy they can see clearly and still can’t change. They’re not lacking awareness — they’re lacking traction.
  • The young adult figuring out who they are. Twenty-something, launched, navigating the gap between the life they’re building and the life they thought they’d feel by now — and the particular loneliness of struggling quietly while everything looks fine from the outside.
  • The person at a turning point. A marriage that’s changed. A career that no longer fits. A loss that hasn’t resolved the way they expected. The old map doesn’t work anymore.

What these clients share is a readiness for something to change, and the willingness to do the work that change requires.

What makes this different

Skill-building and deeper insight for lasting change.

Individual therapy gives you someone in your corner who is not inside your life. You do not have to protect, impress, reassure, or manage anyone else. You can bring what you edit out everywhere else.

Every season of life brings a new challenge, a chance to grow, and an accompanying crisis that needs to be resolved. People seek therapy when they hit a problem they cannot solve and find themselves stuck in an unhealthy pattern, situation, or relationship.

  • In your 20s, you are often trying to sort out who you are, navigating choices in relationships or careers, and figuring out where you want to go.
  • In your 30s, the focus shifts to questions around success, commitment, and the transition to family.
  • In your 40s, 50s, and beyond, you begin to sift through the choices made thus far — reconciling what you imagined adulthood would be like versus how it actually feels, often while torn between caring for your children and your aging parents.

Over time, there is a growing understanding that time is a limited and precious resource. People often seek therapy during periods of significant change — the birth of a baby, the loss of a parent, an unexpected divorce. At 1A Wellness, we provide the support and skilled guidance needed to resolve these crises and move forward to become more of who you essentially are.

Why the caliber of your therapist matters

The therapy field has expanded rapidly. That’s mostly good — but it also means significant variation in the quality of training, the depth of clinical experience, and the ability to navigate complexity. Our clinicians trained at programs that select for the best: UNC Chapel Hill, Harvard Medical School, Smith College, Temple University, Boston College, Cambridge Health Alliance, and the Harvard Program for Psychotherapy — one of the most competitive postdoctoral fellowships in New England.

That training matters not because credentials are the point, but because the work you’ll do here requires a clinician who has seen a lot, knows a lot, and has developed the judgment that only comes from years of difficult work with difficult material. You wouldn’t choose a surgeon based on price and availability. The same logic applies here.

What we work on

Individual therapy at 1A Wellness addresses a wide range of concerns. What unites them is that almost all of it, at the root, comes back to relationships — with other people, and with yourself.

  • Anxiety that makes no logical sense — or anxiety you understand and still can’t shake, often rooted in early relational experiences and attachment patterns.
  • Depression that can feel overwhelming and paralyzing, or more like a chronic flatness or disconnection.
  • Relationship patterns that repeat across different partners, friendships, or family dynamics despite genuine effort to change them.
  • Life transitions — a new role, a loss, early retirement, becoming a parent, or the gap between where you are and where you thought you’d be.
  • Identity and self-worth — particularly for high-achieving people whose external accomplishments haven’t produced the internal experience they expected.
  • Grief that hasn’t moved, or that arrived later and harder than expected.
  • The person who looks entirely fine and is privately not okay — who performs competence so consistently that even the people close to them don’t know how much it costs. Therapy is one of the only places where that performance isn’t required.
