Fees & Insurance

Out-of-network therapy, explained.

We are a self-pay practice by design. Here’s exactly how fees, out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA/FSA work.

Out-of-network therapy

Why self-pay?

No insurance panels. No third party with access to your records. Our clinicians have typically spent 6–10 years in advanced training; being out-of-network lets them work with a manageable caseload and make clinical decisions based on what’s right for you — not what an insurance panel will reimburse.

The details

Session fees

Standard sessions are 50 minutes and range from $275 to $450, depending on the clinician.* We confirm your clinician’s exact fee before your first appointment.

*Extended couples sessions may cost more.

Out-of-network reimbursement

You pay the full fee at the time of service; depending on your plan, your insurer reimburses a portion. We provide a Superbill (an itemized receipt with diagnosis, procedure codes, sessions, and fees) to submit — typically monthly. The majority of our clients receive some reimbursement. There are apps like Reimbursify that can help you file easily for a small fee.

HSA / FSA

Therapy is typically an eligible expense for Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, and we accept HSA/FSA cards.

Assessments

Assessment scope and pricing are discussed directly at intake.

If the match isn’t right

If the first session makes clear we’re not the right fit, whether that is your call or ours, we don’t charge for it. Sometimes what someone needs is a different level of care than we provide, and we’ll help point you toward it.

Before your first appointment

Call your insurer and ask:

  • If I see an out-of-network behavioral-health or outpatient therapist, what is my financial responsibility?
  • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met?
  • What is my out-of-pocket maximum?
  • What is my out-of-network cost share (the percentage I’m responsible for)?
No Surprises Act

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of services; we provide one on request and at intake. Please note: our clinicians have opted out of Medicare, and we do not accept MassHealth.
